Fall Conferences
Shahala Middle School will be hosting Fall Conferences this year on November 18 & 20. These days are early release days for students to allow for time for teachers to conference with families. Students should attend conferences with their parents or guardians. Conferences will be held in the round which means that all teachers will be available during all conference times and parents and students can drop-in to talk to any and all of their current teachers.
Fall Conferences in the Round: Drop-in Event
November 18, from 2:00-4:00 pm
November 20, from 2:00-4:00 pm
November 20, from 5:00-7:00 pm
NOTE: If you are not able to come during the conference times above, but you would like a focused, problem solving conference with a specific teacher(s), please email the teacher(s) to schedule a meeting time outside of our planned conference times (listed above).
We look forward to seeing you at conferences and greatly appreciate your partnership in your student’s education!
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we move into November, I want to emphasize the power of consistency in school attendance. Consistent attendance not only improves your child’s academic performance but also builds habits that will benefit them throughout life, such as responsibility and dependability.
November can be a busy month with holidays and family activities, but please remember how important it is to maintain regular attendance. Missing school during this time can create challenges as students begin to learn new concepts and complete assessments before the holiday break.
Thank you for your continued partnership in helping your child succeed by promoting the importance of attending school every day.

Social Emotional Learning
Evergreen Public Schools is committed to ensuring every student feels valued, respected, and supported. Starting this school year, students in grades 4–12 will participate in new Social Emotional Lessons aligned with the Washington State Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Framework. These lessons are designed to reduce harmful language and foster empathy, undestanding, and respect among all students.
What Students Will Learn
This fall, teachers will lead three short lessons focused on:
Respecting differences among peers
Understanding how words and actions affect others
Learning how to speak up when they hear harmful language
Family Partnership & Washington State Policy
We believe our work is most effective when families are informed and actively involved. These lessons align with Washington State law (RCW 28A.345.130), which requires the use of inclusive instructional materials that reflect our diverse community, and with Senate Bill 5082, which promotes and expands social-emotional learning.
Beginning in 2025, Washington state policy allows families to request alternative activities for students whose participation in a lesson may conflict with sincerely held religious beliefs. Families can submit a written request, and students will be provided with an alternative activity at no penalty
Together, we can help every student feel a sense of belonging, safety, and respect at school.
