Scott Winks received his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Idaho and a Master of Science, Teaching from Portland State University. Scott has taught in the Evergreen Public School since 2001 when Shahala was a new school in the district.

Scott has been a member of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra for over 20 years and is a freelance musician in the greater Portland, Oregon area. His main instrument is the trumpet. He also enjoys mountain biking on local trails and touring the back roads of Washington and Oregon on his motorcycle. Spending quality time with his family is his favorite thing to do.

At Shahala, Scott Teaches Jazz Band, as well as 6th, 7th, and 8th grade bands. He also teaches 5th grade beginning band at Fisher's Landing Elementary and 5th grade beginning orchestra at Columbia Valley Elementary. 

"In the music department at Shahala, we strive to teach students that music has the ability to contribute to the quality of life in our school community through performing in school and public concerts."

Elizabeth O'Mara teaches 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Orchestra. She received her Masters in Education degree from Portland State University, and she also has a violin performance degree from the University of Oregon.

When she's not teaching, Liz plays with the Vancouver Symphony, Nova Northwest Orchestra, Portland Chamber Orchestra, and Vancouver String Quartet.

Liz enjoys teaching students all about the art that she loves! She believes music is so important for everyone to appreciate and to be a part of.

"It is so fun to see the growth each student makes on their instrument from the beginning of the year to the end of the year, to the end of middle school, and beyon. Orchestra rocks!" 

In addition to music, Liz enjoys bicycling, baking, and makeup artistry, as well as riding horses, playing tennis, and reading books when she can!
