TRAILS Group
This group is based on a curriculum developed by TRAILS, a University of Michigan Depression Center program, and will teach your child evidence-based skills for coping with and managing difficult emotions.
Over the course of 10 sessions, students will learn about:
Anxiety and depression
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Relaxation and mindfulness
Cognitive Coping: recognizing Automatic Negative Thoughts (ANTs) and reframing them into more helpful “coping” thoughts
Behavioral Activation: how getting active improves our mood
Exposure: how facing our fears helps us manage anxiety and overcome avoidance
You will receive a letter after each group describing what students learned along with suggestions for integrating new strategies into daily life. Please help reinforce these skills by asking your child to teach you what they learned and by encouraging them to practice. The more we practice, the better we get! These skills are helpful for adults as well, so feel free to practice right along with your child. The benefits will be worth the investment of your time and energy!
Please feel free to contact me if you would like additional information. I look forward to working with your student!
Sincerely,
Lisa DeGrenier, School Counselor
